Scope

This Standard sets out general design criteria, performance requirements and procedures for testing mechanical window locks for their resistance to forced entry and efficiency under condition of low-frequency to high-frequency use.
This Standard also sets out performance requirements for key lockable, key unlockable and non-key lockable window locks, and window operators, e.g. window winders used as window locks.
The Standard applies to locks for typical wooden, metal, polymer, or composite windows such as awnings, sliding, double hung sash or casement in residential and business premises including public buildings.
Certain areas may require higher level security locking devices not referred to in this Standard, e.g. security grilles, locking bars, electronic devices, detection devices and alarms. The definition, specification and testing of these devices are beyond the scope of this Standard.
