Abstract

This Competency Standard sets out the generic cross-industry competencies needed for work associated with electrical equipment in hazardous areas. It is divided into fifteen units of competency in which electrical equipment in which combinations of skills are described in the context of different work functions. The competencies are intended for use by industry sector or enterprise with regards to explosion-protection related to the following functional areas: producing, processing or servicing functions in hazardous area and not directly involved in installing, maintaining or repairing explosion-protected equipment and systems; installing and maintaining or repairing explosion-protected equipment and systems in the hazardous area; overhauling, repairing and modifying explosion-protected equipment; developing/designing and maintaining explosion-protection strategies; and inspecting hazardous area equipment, systems and installations.
