Scope

This Standard specifies requirements for alkyd/micaceous iron oxide (MIO) paint for the protection of iron and steel against exterior atmospheric corrosion. It is suitable for application by conventional air or airless spraying and may also be applied by roller or brush. Paint specified in this Standard is described in AS/NZS 2312 as Paint Reference 17.
This paint is intended for use as an intermediate coat or a topcoat over appropriately primed surfaces for the protection of iron and steel against corrosion. Two types are specified which have different MIO contents and which provide different degrees of protection.
NOTES:
1 This paint may be used as detailed for system SP4-C, SP5-C, MP3-C, MP4-A and MP7-C in AS/NZS 2312.
2 Appendix A contains recommendations and advice on information which should be provided by the purchaser at the time of enquiry or order.
3 Additional information on the use and application of alkyd/micaceous iron oxide paints is contained in
Appendix B.
4 Alternative methods for determining compliance with this Standard are given in Appendix C.
5 The paint is available in a restricted range of colours.
