Abstract

1.1 This specification establishes requirements for polyethyleneof raised temperature (PE-RT) plastic hot- and coldwatertubing and distribution systems components made in onestandard dimension ratio and intended for 100 psig (6.9 bar)water service up to and including a maximum workingtemperature of 180 °F (82 °C). Components are comprised oftubing, fittings, valves and manifolds. Tubing may incorporatean optional polymeric inner, middle or outer layer. Testing offittings and PE-RT tubing to the requirements of this standardindicate that these fittings are appropriate for use with PE-RTpiping systems. Requirements and test methods are includedfor materials, workmanship, dimensions and tolerances, burstpressure, sustained pressure, oxidative resistance, temperaturecycling tests, bend strength and environmental stress cracking. Also included are tests related to system malfunctions. Thecomponents covered by this specification are intended for usein residential and commercial, hot and cold, potable waterdistribution systems.1.2 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes, and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specification.NOTE 1—Suggested hydrostatic design stresses and hydrostatic pressureratings for tubing and fittings are listed in Appendix X1. UV labelingguidelines are provided in Appendix X2. Design, assembly, and installationconsiderations are provided in Appendix X3. An optional performancequalification and an in-plant quality control program are recommendedin Appendix X4.1.3 Units—The values stated in inch-pound units are to beregarded as standard. The values given in parentheses aremathematical conversions to SI units that are provided forinformation only and are not considered standard.1.4 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion, Section 7, of this specification. Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, andenvironmental practices and determine the applicability ofregulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordancewith internationally recognized principles on standardizationestablished in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards, Guides and Recommendationsissued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
