Scope

1.1This Standard covers the design, qualification, installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, anddocumentation of the safety systems for a water-cooled nuclear power plant.1.2This Standard provides the general requirements for the safety systems. This Standard is a companiondocument of CSA N290.2 and N290.3, which outline specific requirements.1.3In CSA standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged tosatisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that whichis advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within thelimits of the standard.Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose ofa note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written asrequirements.Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define theirapplication.
